Karl Koelling

Prior to coming to Compass, Karl ran his own production company out of Traverse City, Michigan doing largely corporate marketing pieces. Desiring to move into more narrative work, Karl and his family moved to Grand Rapids where he completed the Compass one-year program in 2008. Karl continues to do corporate marketing and broadcast work and is currently in pre-production on a documentary and 5-part short film series. Karl’s passions are producing and cinematography.

Interests/Hobbies: MSU Basketball, Photography, Cinematography, and Family (I’m married with 3 kids!)

Why I’m at Compass: I didn’t figure out what I wanted to do in life until “later,” and Compass has afforded me the opportunity to pursue it. Being a resident artist helps me hone my skills with other artists, it provides a sense of community, and it offers full access to all of the professional resources and contacts that Compass has.
